Finding Events and Activities in Zakaya

Overview

Zakaya's events and activities system helps you stay connected with your communities through organized gatherings and ongoing activities. Whether you're looking for upcoming events, want to join ongoing activities, or need reminders for something you've registered for, our tools make it easy to stay engaged and never miss out.

Finding Events

Events Calendar

The events calendar is your central hub for discovering what's happening across all your communities:

  • Access the calendar by tapping the "Events" icon in the main navigation bar
  • Filter events by community, event type, or date range
  • View modes include month, week, or list view to suit your preference
  • Event details show at a glance: time, location (virtual or physical), host, and current attendee count

Community Activity Feed

Each community also displays upcoming events directly in their activity feed:

  • Events appear in your community feeds with a distinctive calendar icon
  • Pinned events (highlighted by community moderators) appear at the top of feeds
  • Personalized recommendations appear based on your interests and past participation

Registering for Events

Once you've found an event you're interested in, you can easily register to attend:

  1. Tap on the event to view its full details
  2. Select the "I'm Interested" or "RSVP" button
  3. Choose your attendance status (Going, Maybe, Can't Go)
  4. Add the event to your personal calendar with the "Add to Calendar" option

RSVP Options

Depending on how the event is set up by organizers, you might see different RSVP options:

  • Open events: Anyone can join immediately
  • Limited capacity events: Shows remaining spots available
  • Approval required: Your request will be reviewed by the organizer
  • Waitlist events: Join the waitlist when the event is at capacity

Setting Reminders

Never miss an event with Zakaya's reminder system:

  • Default reminders are sent 24 hours and 1 hour before events
  • Custom reminders can be set when you RSVP
  • Notification preferences can be adjusted in your account settings
  • Calendar sync works with most popular calendar apps

Participating in Activities

Activities differ from events as they're ongoing or recurring opportunities to engage:

Finding Activities

  • Visit the "Activities" tab in any community
  • Browse the global activities directory by tapping "Activities" in the main menu
  • Filter activities by type, frequency, or community

Joining Activities

  1. Select an activity that interests you
  2. Review the activity details, schedule, and requirements
  3. Tap "Join Activity"
  4. Set your participation preferences (if applicable)

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Events and Activities

Before the Event

  • Check requirements: Some events may have prerequisites or materials you need
  • Review details carefully: Note any preparation needed or discussion topics
  • Introduce yourself: Many events have pre-event discussion threads

During the Event

  • Virtual events: Test your audio/video before joining
  • In-person events: Use the built-in location map for directions
  • Hybrid events: Choose your preferred participation method

After the Event

  • Provide feedback: Rate events to help organizers improve
  • Continue conversations: Events often have follow-up discussion threads
  • Share highlights: Post photos or insights in the community feed

Organizing Your Own Events

If you'd like to create your own event:

  1. Navigate to the community where you want to host
  2. Tap the "+" button and select "Create Event"
  3. Follow the event creation wizard

Note that different communities have different permissions for who can create events. If you don't see this option, reach out to a community moderator.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

  • Can't find an event: Try clearing all filters and search again
  • Event reminders not working: Check your notification settings
  • Unable to RSVP: The event may be full or require special access

If you're experiencing issues with events or activities:

  • Check the event details for organizer contact information
  • Ask in the community's general chat
  • Reach out to support through the Help Center
